The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is a cult classic game from the Nintendo Game Boy. It was released in 1993 and takes place on the island Koholint. In this game, you play as Link who must save the world from a dark power called Ganon. This article will break down how to beat each level, what items are available for purchase, and what enemies you will face throughout the journey.

The link’s awakening deathless ending is the final boss of Link’s Awakening. It is a battle with a dragon and has been described as one of the hardest battles in Nintendo history.

When most people finish The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, they conclude that everything was a dream and that the storyline was a total waste of time in the Zelda chronology. However, if you look into it more, you’ll see that if you don’t wake the Windfish, the timeline will stop and Link will perish. Let me just give you a short overview before we get into the specifics, and then we’ll go on to breaking down those elements.

In short:

Link rescues three of the four actual characters (the Windfish, Link, and Marin) at the conclusion of Link’s Awakening, but Nakura (the ghost) succumbs to the storm and cannot be rescued. We discover at the end of the game that Koholint and the rest of the town’s residents only live in the Windfish’s dream.

Each of the four “actual” individuals will have a new outlook on life and death. Despite the fact that the rest of the characters, like Koholint Island, do not exist in the actual world, they play an essential part in the story. They act as a barrier that, if not overcome, will seal Link’s, the Windfish’s, and Marin’s fates. Beyond just surviving, there are a slew of other essential things to keep in mind, which I’ll go over in depth below.

A Classic Zelda Game

Aside from Wand of Gamelon, many people consider Link’s Awakening to be one of, if not THE, greatest Zelda games ever made. Others, on the other hand, are dissatisfied. And it’s understandable if you look at the game as simply as possible. As someone who has played this game almost every year since it was first released in 1993, I’ve picked up on a few subtleties and a few KEY facts that most people will likely miss. Details that put the catastrophic devastation of the lovely Koholint Island in a fresh, more positive perspective.

To be honest, I created this video since I couldn’t locate any YouTube video that summarized what I think is the most important aspect of this game. The majority of films on the subject are created shortly after a first playing, when the player hasn’t had much time to think on the events that occurred. To be clear, I’m not implying that I’m brighter or more perceptive than anybody who hasn’t seen these things. Okay, I’m simply a geek. In everything I do, I’m a geek.

So there you have it.

The Individual Pieces of the Puzzle

Link is voyaging on his ship as the winds abruptly speed up and storms break loose at the start of Link’s Awakening. His boat gets hit by lightning, and the screen goes black, after he has braved the storm to the best of his ability.

Marin, an orange-haired hottie who later gets severely friend-zoned and left alone to die, finds and saves Link. Potentially, at least… However, we’ll get to it in a minute.

Link talks with Marin and her father Tarin after finally waking up, and then departs their home to continue his journey. And it’s here that we’ll discover our first major hint if we keep our eyes peeled.

After reclaiming your sword and shield, you decide it’s time to start killing the evil guys, so you go out into the strange woods in quest of the key to Dungeon 1, Tail Cave’s entrance.

That Strange Raccoon

The strange woods are mainly populated with “m-m-m-moblins” and various kinds of enemies. A raccoon, though, finally blocks the route and freezes us in our tracks. This raccoon claims to have cast a charm on the woods to keep us from discovering the Tail Cave key.

The spell that this shady raccoon has cast on the woods serves as a kind of deterrent. A barrier that we can’t break through on our own.

So we go out and locate a mushroom, grind it up into a powder, and then sprinkle it on the raccoon. The raccoon goes insane, and POOF, he transforms into Tarin.

Tarin claims to have experienced the “darndest dream” after biting on a strange fungus in the woods. He says that he was a raccoon in his dreams… Hmm..

Tarin releases the magic that is placed on the strange forests as a present for waking him awake, enabling us to continue through and retrieve the Tail Cave key.

It’s intriguing, but let’s keep on for now.

Heavy responsibilities

Later in our journey, we are able to use the same magical powder to wake up a bat that has been sleeping in three caverns. He then chastises and curses us, requiring us to carry more bombs, arrows, and powder for the remainder of the game. A hefty backpack is a real pain. Imagine lugging all of those stuff while trapped in Eagle’s Tower for two hours…

*Whew*

Within a Dream, within a Dream, within a Dream, within a Dream

What else do we have except a sleeping Raccoon and a snoozing bat? Let’s go to the dream shrine in Mabe Village, which is located to the north east.

The dream shrine is a weird chamber that is right in front of our eyes at the start of the game, hiding in plain sight. There is nothing inside but a bed. We may go inside the dream shrine, lie down on the bed, and fall asleep. Link is sent into a dream every time we sleep here, where he may discover the game’s most crucial item – the Macarena.

This ocarina will be used to awaken the Windfish at the conclusion of the game.

Wait, did you say you were going to wake up the Windfish? But wasn’t this video supposed to show that it wasn’t all a dream?

You’re probably thinking right now that this isn’t going anywhere. And you’d be completely correct. Everything about the game was a dream, and that was the end of it.

The Pieces Are In Place

But hold for a second, Tarin was a raccoon. It’s odd that he claims he was just *dreaming* about becoming a raccoon. Isn’t it true that it wasn’t a dream? It doesn’t matter whether it was a dream or not. It makes no difference since it halted our development. So, does it really matter if someone else’s dream has such a huge effect on us if it’s a dream? Surely, what counts here are the real-world implications.

If you ever had one of those dreams… you know, the ones where you were suddenly a billionaire and woke up with a million dollars in your pocket… You’d have a lot of money in your pocket. But, although the dream itself wasn’t real at the time, the dream’s effect was. You would have awoken a billionaire, while before the dream you just had the little sum of money from your one GME stock.

Dreams are often mentioned in Link’s Awakening, and they seem to be more true reflections of reality than a fabrication of our mind. We almost always receive our hints when there’s a sleeper involved.

Tarin is the second guy we meet on this little island, and it’s no accident that he’s one of the game’s initial interactions. The basis for the remainder of this strange trip is laid simply by meeting him and understanding the implications of someone else’s fantasy right away. The raccoon is a good example to remember as we work our way through the contradictory facts on this so-called “dream island.”

Now, how come Link still holds the Ocarina after we wake up from the dream shrine? Link wakes up with a very genuine object from his activities inside the dream shrine dream, much like the million-dollar idea I gave.

Was it still a nightmare? Sure, maybe… most likely. That, however, is beside the issue. The idea is that it makes no difference because of how it impacts us in real life.

What counts is what we bring with us. The events that take place inside the dream shrine may or may not be true, but the ocarina is. The island may not be real, but the Windfish must be awakened. Furthermore, the time we spent there, the people we encountered, and the difficulties we faced, as well as how they shaped us as individuals, should never be forgotten.

Acceptance of Marin

Marin is found on a beach a little later, at one of the game’s most personal moments. She tells us how she has always known there was more beyond the island as we sit on a log viewing the vast expanse of water. This is an important fact since no one else seems to have thought about life outside of the island until this stage in the game. She tells us about her aspirations of becoming a seagull so that she may sing to everyone and everyone across the oceans, go exploring, and just enjoy the pleasure of soaring above the globe without being restricted by her human body.

Marin comes to us at another time and says, “Link, you will leave this island someday… It’s something I simply know in my heart… Don’t ever forget about me… I’ll never forgive you if you do!”

Sure, leaving the world behind may be a bit depressing. Marin, on the other hand, simply wants that we remember her. And it is precisely what we should do.

We play the Windfish song at the conclusion of the game to awaken the Windfish, and we are instantly awakened with the Windfish.

If these particular dreams have been shown to have real repercussions depending on our activities in our journey so far, this clearly indicates that the Windfish would die if we did not play the song to wake up the Windfish. In that fantasy, we would also perish. Neither Link nor the Windfish were able to recover from the storm’s effects, and the legendary hero died there and there. Sinking to the ocean’s deepest depths, never to be seen again.

When we compare the excellent conclusion to the conventional ending, which we shall discuss in a minute, we can see the immediate effect of this.

Burdens are transformed into blessings.

This is an important story. Not just for Link as a growing character, but also for ourselves as passengers on the journey.

There’s always something new to discover when we revisit Link’s Awakening. Remember the bat that cursed us for disturbing his naps? Those curses really worked in our favor. Our bomb bag, arrow quiver, and powder bag were all upgraded. Despite being a trying time for Mr. Hero, the storm Link encountered may have been a gift in disguise. This game would not exist if it weren’t for it. Sometimes, even in the most difficult of circumstances, we must accept the good that has resulted from those difficult circumstances. And it’s possible that the good wasn’t just for us.

We not only rescue Link from death when we complete the game, but we also save the Windfish. The Windfish soars over Link, making a loud whale noise (pun intended). He makes a voice as though to thank Link for rescuing him, or maybe simply to say hello after their incredible trip together. They both made it through. Despite the fact that Link is sailing right and the Windfish is sailing left, and they are obviously heading their own ways, they may both reflect on the moments they spent together and recall what a fantastic game this is.

Many of the characters, such as the quadruplet children who can’t imagine life outside of the island, are made up in the Windfish’s mind. Others, on the other hand, are much more.

The Happy Ending

You get the “good ending” if you complete Link’s Awakening without dying. Not only are the Windfish and Link saved in this happy ending, but we also get to witness Marin’s soul at her best. Then, like a bird, we watch her soar away. Her dream came true.

Given that Link predates the dream and that the Windfish predates the dream, we may reasonably infer Marin predates the dream (as a seagull).

It’s similar to Marin’s father Tarin, who was born a human but transformed into a raccoon in his so-called dream state before resuming his human shape when he awoke.

Maybe that’s what Marin got out of the dream, too, since it was a challenge to give us fresh views. Marin, in her seagull form, may have always admired people before being engulfed in the dream. And for her, this fantasy was a test to see whether she could overcome her jealousy and appreciate what she already had. In the same way as you and I should. We all have problems and things about ourselves that we don’t like, but maybe we don’t have it that bad. Perhaps we’re focusing too much on what we don’t have and not enough on what we do have. Marin is free to fly above the Earth and go anywhere she wants, just as she has always been. It is only now that she recognizes its beauty.

When good endings aren’t an option, goodbyes are the only option.

There are times when we must move on because of the cards we have been dealt.

We are pursued by a ghost called Nakura after exiting the fourth dungeon, Angler’s Tunnel. The game doesn’t go into much detail about this ghost, but we do know that he reflects on his life, his home by the sea, and his possessions. When he realizes that everything he leaves behind will remain the same, he is devastated. There’s a feeling of powerlessness. But then he begs you to accompany him to his tomb, where he fully understands that the tempest he found himself in is not one from which he will awaken. This is his last resting place in this dream.

Not everything that occurs in our lives enables us to progress. We will all have to say our goodbyes and come to grips with our own death at some point. Even yet, he may look at the world and recall that he did had a home, some clothing, collections, and a compass and map on the table — all of which suggest a rich life of travel and unforgettable moments. He most likely resided in a home on a bay near where Link was sailing in real life. But, in any event, he had a life. His life had an effect on others, including ours.

A picture of the ghost waving farewell can be seen only in Link’s Awakening DX. He seems to be comfortable and cheerful. Because there are moments when there is nothing we can do. Sometimes we simply have to accept and let go of the fact that things are the way they are. Sometimes all we have to do is take one last glance back and say our goodbyes.

When it’s time to move on,

We do, however, occasionally choose to move on. Because it’s time for us to mature and embark on new experiences. Link had to determine whether or not he was willing to risk everything. Despite repeated warnings that all would fade to nothing, he was going to wake up the Windfish.

“To the discoverer.

The Isle of Koholint is just a mirage.

Humans, monsters, and the sky of the sea

A scene shown on the lid of a sleeping person’s eye.

Koholint will evaporate like a bubble on a needle if the dreamer is awakened.

You, Castaway, should be aware of the truth!”

This is the written word on the wall.

However, that risk was worthwhile since it was time to move on.

Look, we all have our ups and downs in life. Perhaps you’ve had to move away from people you care about, or perhaps you’ve just gone through a difficult breakup, or perhaps you’ve lost a loved one. Whatever it is, remember in your heart and mind that we all need to move on from time to time.

With being stated, keep those memories in mind. Whatever those instances are, I’m sure they’ll be memorable. Don’t forget how essential they were to you, and how much their presence influenced your life.

It’s OK if we have to move on, even if it’s the most difficult thing we’ve ever done. What occurred on Koholint Island had a genuine impact, just like everything else that happened to you during those trying times. Those moments aren’t lost; they’re memories you can save and treasure for the rest of your life. You developed as a person as a result of those experiences, and you moved on when you needed to. You persevered in the face of adversity and are now more prepared to handle whatever difficulties lie ahead.

To be honest, you’re quite cool.

Goodbye

“Oh dream, please don’t let me awaken.

So you want it, but you can’t have it.

A dream must come to an end at some point.

Time has a mind of its own.

Even if everything vanishes in the breeze,

I’m going to swim across the sky of your memories.

Even after you’ve awakened, it’s still there.

The dream will never leave you.”

I’d want to make one last point. As you approach Turtle Rock, the game’s last dungeon, there’s an intriguing scene where Marin attempts to wake the Windfish herself. Regardless matter whether you receive the nice or normal ending, this occurs. Marin attempts frantically to wake up the Windfish to save your life, even though she knows she will not wake up from the dream. At the same time, it’s extremely gloomy and quite poignant.

This game is unquestionably a gem.

I hope you found it interesting! I’ll catch up with you in the next article, video, or live broadcast.
